Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi
It is my privilege to write this message for the launch of our news portal Beltnsilkroad.com. This is perfectly timed to be part of the “2019 UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting & Dialogue on International Cities’ Economic and Trade Cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative” held in Yiwu on 22 May 2019.
The news portal wishes to become a knowledge sharing platform for all issues within its editorial focus in an effort to disseminate the news and views concerning the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) among all stakeholders. The geographical canvas of news coverage is as wide as the BRI itself.
There is an abundance of information in terms of country-level collaborations under the BRI. Through this news portal, we hope to promote good practices along the belt and road by highlighting actions taking place in cities and local governments where the initiative is actually realized.
The environment is now a central concern for any infrastructure project under the BRI as promised by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the second Belt and Road Forum recently held in Beijing. This is a good development as it complements the efforts cities and local governments are taking following global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), New Urban Agenda (NUA) and Paris Climate Accord.
Information is valuable only if it leads to action. We hope the information published in Beltnsilkroad.com will not just be used by readers to keep themselves abreast of the BRI’s updates but also provide opportunities for building bridges, partnerships and collaborations for larger public good. We invite you to visit the new website, be a participating reader and help us make it an engaging and relevant publication. We hope you will enjoy reading this issue.
With kindest regards
