Beijing: Adel Abdel Mahdi, Prime Minister of Iraq said that the country would join China’s “Belt and Road” infrastructure investment project in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a state visit.
Mahdi pointed out that Iraq has gone through war and is thankful to China for its respected support.
Xi said that both the countries would cooperate on oil and infrastructure projects. This will be a new beginning to push forward the China-Iraq strategic partnership.
According to state news agency Xinhua, trade last year between China and Iraq was more than $30 billion, Beijing is Baghdad’s biggest trade partner, while Iraq is China’s second biggest oil supplier.
