Georgia organized Silk Road forum to boost international cooperation


TBILISI: Tbilisi Silk Road Forum was organized in Georgia to discuss opportunities of strengthening political, economic and cultural relations between Asia and Europe.

Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia, stressed on the significance of the new Silk Road in modern economic integration and globalization and said he is proud to be part of the Silk Road at the opening ceremony.

Georgia was one amongst the countries that had applauded the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to form new trade corridors between Europe and Asia and improve existing ones.

The Tbilisi Silk Road Forum is an opportunity and a platform for the countries involved in BRI, international organisations can reduce economic challenges and explore ways to overcome the challenges with their shared experience., he said.

Gakharia said that Georgia has taken enormous steps to develop its transport and logistics sectors and infrastructure, refine laws and integrate itself into global transport systems over the past years. “Today Georgia is a reliable and trustworthy partner, with free trade deals with the EU and China, offering big opportunities both for local and foreign investors,” Gakharia said.
